Villa V Seminyak is not one building but several, arranged around a courtyard pool on Jalan Mertanadi. Living, dining and each bedroom sit under their own alang-alang thatched roof, joined by terraces and stepping stones, so moving through the villa means walking through the garden. It is the older Balinese way of building, and it is increasingly rare this close to Seminyak.

The pool is the centre of it, with a bale — a raised, roofed daybed — set over the water at one end and sun loungers along the terrace. At dusk the lanterns come on and the whole courtyard lights up, which is when the villa is at its best.

Inside, the pavilions are full of antique carved teak: tall doors, panelled headboards, low tables. The main living room is open on two sides under a high pitched roof; a second, quieter living room has the Smart TV and a pair of daybeds. All three bedrooms have four-poster beds with mosquito-net canopies and their own en-suite, two of them open to the sky.

A cook is on staff, so breakfast is made in the villa each morning and lunch or dinner can be arranged from a menu. There is a massage pavilion in the garden. On 1166 m² of grounds with 650 m² of building, it is a genuinely large plot for three bedrooms.

Three bedrooms, three en-suites, each in its own pavilion. All three have a four-poster bed with a mosquito-net canopy, an antique carved teak headboard or panelled screen, air conditioning, wardrobe space and doors opening onto the garden or the pool terrace. Two have a writing desk. En-suites are finished in stone with timber cabinetry, twin or double basins and walk-in showers; one is an open-air court with a rain shower under the sky.

The main living pavilion is open on two sides beneath a high pitched alang-alang roof carried on stone columns, furnished with daybeds and a low table. A second living room sits behind it with the Smart TV, paired daybeds and a set of tall antique doors. Indoors, a dining table seats six beside the kitchen bar; the kitchen itself is a full galley with a range, extractor, double sink, fridge, microwave, coffee machine and toaster, and a stone breakfast bar with rattan stools.

Outside, a long timber table on the terrace seats eight under the palms, and a second outdoor table sits beside the pool. The bale over the water takes cushions and a floating tray. Beyond the pool are lotus ponds, frangipani, bougainvillea and a garden pavilion used for massage.

Two staff look after the villa with daily housekeeping, a gardener and pool maintenance, and there is a villa manager on call. A cook prepares breakfast each morning; lunch and dinner are available from a menu at extra cost. There is CCTV, a safe, mosquito nets, board games and a yoga space, and the villa has step-free wheelchair access.
